26, Alipur Road is to be Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial. Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Member, Planning Commission & Chairman of High Level Committee (HLC) constituted by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (SJ&E) for planning the development of Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road, Delhi, submitted its report here yesterday, to Shri Mukul Wasnik, Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment & Chairman, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF).
The project is of historical importance because Dr. Ambedkar breathed his last at 26, Alipur Road, which is considered as a sacred place by the innumerable followers of Dr. Ambedkar. The Architectural Design Idea recommended by the Committee has structures inspired by Buddhist Architecture. The Memorial would house relics of Dr. Ambedkar, a photo gallery covering all important aspects of life and work of Dr. Ambedkar, Bodhisattva Bhim Jyoti, Bodhisattva Bhim Stambha, Boddhivriksha, replicas of Bhim Janambhoomi (Mhow), Deeksha Bhoomi (Nagpur), Rajgraha & Chatiya Bhoomi (Mumbai). It also comprises of Meditation Hall, Audio-Visual Wing, Information Centre etc.
The report was presented in the presence of the Shri F.H. Jakkappanavar, Vice Chairman, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) and Member, HLC, Shri K.M. Acharya, Secretary, M/o SJ&E, Prof. Nandu Ram, JNU, Member Secretary, DAF & HLC and Director, DAF.
